Qld: Gulf faces prolong isolation
Emergency authorities in Queensland are concerned communities in the Gulf of Carpentaria
region could remain flood-bound for another month .. three times longer than the typical
big wet.
Normanton and Karumba have been isolated by road for the past six weeks and authorities
expect them to remain so for at least another month.
Army and RAAF personnel have located a problem with Karumba's drinking water pipeline
.. which will take some time to repair due to the floodwaters.
A portable water treatment plant is on its way to Karumba to sustain the town's fresh
water supplies .. while bottled water's being distributed to residents.
Queensland Health senior official Dr ISAAC SEIDL has warned of the potential for depression
to set in among those affected by flooding.
