Camra battles to save threatened pubs

A pressure group has attacked plans to permanently close two Bathpubs.

Both the Castle at Bathwick and the Englishcombe Inn atEnglishcombe Lane are currently shut.

The Bath and Borders branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra)has begun efforts to persuade planners to reject new proposals forboth buildings.

Amek Investments, which recently bought the Castle at ForesterAvenue, has applied for planning permission to turn it into housing,while Cedar Care Homes wants to convert the Englishcombe Inn into a40-bed care and nursing home.

The applications are currently being considered by Bath and NorthEast Somerset Council planning officials.
