Only two days after the Town Board authorized $8 million in bonding to build a new community center at the Clifton Common, petitions are circulating to force a referendum on the project.
That referendum - even if it failed to overturn the bonding - would hold up the start of construction of the center until next year, Supervisor Kevin Dailey, the center's biggest supporter, said Wednesday.
Town Councilwoman Carol Drambour, who has questioned the town's ability to pay for the center, applauded the news about the petitions.
