Vic: Opposition gets dirty ahead of burwood by election
The Victorian opposition has dug up a 1996/97 commonwealth auditor-general report in
a move to dirty campaigning for Saturday's crucial Burwood by-election.
The report criticised the financial management of aid agency AusAID when Labor hopeful
BOB STENSHOLT(PRON: Stenz-holt) was assistant director.
Opposition leader DENIS NAPTHINE says the report casts a shadow over Mr STENSHOLT'S
credibility and puts a question mark over his ability to manage taxpayer's funds.
Dr NAPTHINE predicts the result will be close on Saturday for the seat which was held
by former premier JEFF KENNETT for 23 years.
If Labor wins a 6.8 per cent swing, Mr BRACKS' government will no longer have to rely
on the support of independents as he will have an absolute majority in the lower house.
